WONDERFUL REFRESHING TEA.

Calamint is an attractive bush, closely related to Thymes and Catnip, with lovely scented leaves. Makes a lovely tea, hot or cold. Has a very refreshing flavor. Produces small white flowers throughout summer which are attractive to bees. Fantastic plant for the garden. Can be used to flavor game and wild meat. Does not get straggly like some of the mints. Recommended. Perennial. 40cm

JAM & JELLY

This plant grows to 1m and can sprawl. Is good for a chicken coop as the chickens do not eat the plant or the fruit. The berries are encased in little lantern type casing and if you can collect enough they make a good jam or jelly. Delicious eaten straight from the bush

EXOTIC SCENT.

This really ancient spice(often pronounced Cardamon) is a member of the ginger family. The seeds were used to treat flatulence & relieve griping, s well as used to treat oral infections. It is known to stimulate saliva and appetite. Grown commercially in southern India, thus needs quite high temperatures. Needs to be grown in a hot house or inside during winter. Cardamom is an expensive spice second only to saffron. It is a common ingredient in curries.  Makes an ideal house plant and releases a beautiful sweet scent from its leaves. We stock the old fashioned carnation. An attractive herb, popular in flower gardens. Produces a lovely white - pink flower. Easy to grow, as long as it is planted in full sun. Used medicinally in China. Leaves can be added to salads. Perennial. to 20cm. 9cm Pots.

SOOTHE THE DIGESTION.

What a lovely way to sooth the intestinal tract. Carob is a chocolate substitute. The pods are used and can be eaten raw or dried. This grow to be a tall evergreen tree but is frost tender. We have ours growing in a pot protected from the frost by other trees and shrubs.

Really nice border plant. Smaller version of catnip. Produces beautiful   purple flowers during spring, summer and autumn. Very attractive to bees. Makes a nice border plant. Some cats just go crazy over this plant. They will roll in it, eat it and seemingly get high. Some prefer this to catnip. Perennial. 30cm.

Large impressive plant with tall flower spikes all throughout summer. Flowers are an attractive purplish blue color which are attractive to bees. Can grow up to 1m. Perennial.

Catnip is famous for the effect it has on cats. Most cats absolutely love catnip. You will see them eating it, licking it and rolling in it. The cats drool and display very strange behaviour when exposed to this plant. Winter dormant perennial. 60cm.

Chamomile Flore Pleno - Anthemis nobilis "Flore Plena"

DOUBLE FLOWERING AND LOW GROWING.

Very similar to Roman Chamomile, except for the flower. Flore Plena has a double frilly flower head, while Roman chamomile just has a single. Makes a great lawn, or ground cover in a garden. This one has a very low growth habit. Usually achieving only about 10mm although it spreads well. Very aromatic plant. The flower of all the chamomiles (traditionally & commercially, the annual " German Chamomile" is mainly used) is great for making a gentle safe relaxing tea, useful for soothing insomnia  and anxiety. Also used to ease indigestion, or as a mouthwash for inflammations and sore throats. Try as an eyebath for sore eyes, externally to speed healing of wounds and to reduce swelling.  Flowers are best gathered between late spring and summer on a warm dry mid morning after the dew. Perennial. 10cm.

FOR A SOOTHING SLEEP.

The traditionally used medicinal Chamomile. An annual that can grow quite tall (20cm) and sometimes quite straggly. It is worth collecting the flowers which is where the essential oil is concentrated, and laying them to dry for use throughout the year. Always leave about 20% of the flowers to go to seed to assure a supply for the following year. Makes a good hair wash for lighter colored hair.

PERENIAL USED MEDICINALLY.

The flowers of this chamomile can be used as a tea for a soothing sleep. This is an old English herb, commonly used to make a lovely scented lawn, which can be mowed using a lawn mower on a high setting. This chamomile will spread well if kept trimmed. We cut our with hedge clippers to keep it neat. If it gets too straggly or starts to develop brown patches in you are using it as a lawn plant, cut some sections out to make room for renewed growth. Roman chamomile is known to encourage growth in surrounding plants. Perennial. 10cm.

NON FLOWERING, SWEET SMELLING LAWN.

Most popular lawn variety. Treneague is a non-flowering chamomile. Plant 10-15cm apart for a lawn. Can be mowed or trimmed using hedge trimmers. Perennial. 10cm.

Chaste tree got it's name due to an old reputation as an anti-aphrodisiac. Medicinally the fruit of the chaste tree is used for menstrual problems. Will grow to 3m tall, and grows more like a shrub then a tree. Very attractive during spring and summer when it produces long purple flowers. In PB2's

Chervil is a member of the parsley family, and is widely used in French cooking. It tastes fantastic in soups, and the baby leaves are wonderful in salads. The leaves have a faint aniseed flavor. Annual. 60cm.

HIGH IN PROTEIN.

Annual mexican sage. The seeds are and excellent dietary supplement. Seeds good for eating as sprouts, said to induce a feeling of wellness, boosting your energy levels. Chicory - Cichorium intybus

Both Fancy & Red Chicory are stunning edible plants. If you can brave giving up this plant for the plate, you can eat the small leaves in salads or cook the whole plant like a cabbage or silver beet. If you don’t want to eat it, just watch this beatiful plant develop through it colors. Bright greens with streaks of brilliant red, and when it finally produces a flower, it is hard to believe the bright blue contrast so well with the colors of the foliage. Chives are a member of the onion family and are commonly used with egg and cheese dishes. Just snip the leaves with scissors as needed. Also goes very well in a salad. Very attractive border plant with its pink pompom like flowers during summer. Perennial. 15cm.

Garlic chives are stronger in taste than regular chives. The leaves are flatter and thicker with a mild garlic taste. Garlic chives can be used in the same way as regular chives, but use them more sparingly. Grows in a clump so also makes a nice border. Stands up very well to the cold. Perennial. 15cm.

Fantastic herb for gardeners. The leaves are excellent in compost, and when soaked in water the water makes a fantastic natural fertilizer. Excellent for stock health. Attractive plant but it can spread if you're not careful. Is a great plant for under fruit trees. Seems to improve the health of other plants nearby. Can be controlled by mowing. Winter dormant perennial. PB2 size.

A FAVORITE! Much like its larger brother, just takes up a little less room. The flower is quite spectacular against the lush leaves of this comfrey. Use in your compost and for your chickens, horses and cattle just like the regular comfrey. Also makes a good poultice for sore joints and broken bones. Use internally with caution and for no longer then two weeks at a time.

ESSENTIAL TASTE.
Also known as Cilantro. The fruits, roots and leaves are used, but most commonly the leaves have become a very popular taste. The taste of the fruit is quite different from the leaves thus the two are not interchangeable. Plant in a cool place to prevent bolting, and when they do go to seed, leave them to self seed for a continual supply

Attractive plant with large balsam-mint scented leaves. Produces yellow flowers in late summer. Prefers full sun. Can grow similar to mint, so is best planted in a container. The dried leaves make a good insect repellant and a dried branch is useful in the linen cupboard to repel moths. Prefers full sun to flower, but if grown for the leaves is best in part shade. Perennial. 1m.

Cranberry American - Vaccinium oxycoccos

LOVES A BOGGY SITE. The cranberry creep across the ground and has a lovely display of pink to purple flowers followed by a delicious berry. Perfect for making your own cranberry sauce to go with meats or try the true American Cranberry Pie. Said to be excellent for your heart and circulatory system.

ALSO KNOWN AS CHILIAN GUAVA.

A small evergreen shrub, grows to about 1m with a similar spread. If you can pick enough berries this will make a great jelly, but beware it is hard to get them past your mouth. These little fruit are very tastie and well worth introducing to the kids for a healthy straight from the bush snack.

AH...THE SMELL...This lovely plant has a strong aroma of curry when the leaves are brushed. A very attractive plant in the garden with its tight form and silvery blue leaves, with yellow flowers in spring. Goes very well with egg and fish dishes. Perennial. 50cm.
